Many of you have frequently asked me when I would do a personal blog series that you all could keep up with. I avoided it for quite a bit because well, let's be honest, my life is a bit hectic at times! But, the more I think about it, the more I think it would be fun to really include you all in the behind the scenes portion of my life. If you follow me on INSTAGRAM, you get glimpses here and there but nothing in detail. So, what I decided to do is every Friday, I'll sit down to update you on what I've been up to in the week. I'll also update here and there throughout the week of something big happens or if it's something I think you all would find interesting. You'll see my life, completely in the open with you to follow along with. The good, the bad, the ugly, the successes, the failures... you'll get me. Real. Unscripted. Unedited. Just Me.
In this blog series, you'll get to know me on a personal level, in a very real way. I'm excited because I feel connected to you all by even starting this! So, if you're reading this, take a moment and scroll down to the bottom, leave a comment and tell me one thing you did this week that made you feel ACCOMPLISHED. It can be anything!! Go ahead, do it now and then scroll back up when you're done!!!!
Feel better? <3 Awesome, let's kick this thing off!
This week, I'm starting on a light note. Many of you have seen me post little snippets of my desk and for some reason, I get a lot of requests to do a walk through of what I keep on my desk! So, that's what I'm starting off with this week. A tour of what I keep at my fingertips and why it's there.
Welcome to my desk! This is my view while seated.
I keep a stack of devotionals, inspirational books, prayer books and of course, my bible right beside me on my desk. Could I use that space for something else? Absolutely. But I NEED them there. To remind me of how blessed I am to be doing what I love. To remind me to pray. To remind me that above all else, God is in control! I pick up these books randomly throughout the day and read a few pages from each. If I feel my spirits dropping, I pick up a devotional. If I need some inspiration for what I'm going through, I grab one of the others. If I need to be reminded of God's presence, I pick up my bible. These books get me through the day, every day.
Close up of the titles in case you're interested in grabbing one.. or all!
Every day, the mug changes. Today, I am using my seafoam green mug, tomorrow I may use my "Zombie Juice" mug, the next I'll use my Starbucks.. I have a massive mug collection and I love it that way! Every morning, I start off with either earl grey tea with almond milk, green tea with honey & lemon, coffee with almond milk or just black tea with nothing else. It really depends on my mood in the morning.
Next over are my Doug Reed Ministries CD's. I listen to these for many different reasons. My current favorite is The Passionate Life. On top of these is Bilbo.
Bilbo - I found him while thrifting in Old Town, Petersburg VA. I fell in LOVE with him. Seriously, how could you not love a robot made of spare parts and a wooden block? I keep him here because he reminds me to take a chill pill and relax once in a while. Well, not a LITERAL pill.. a figurative one. And for those of you who game, you'll recognize the SackBoy in the background there from Little Big Planet! I'm a gamer at heart. Always have been, always will be.
Beside my CD's is my Canon 24-105mm lens. This was my kit lens that came with my Canon Mark II 5D. I don't use this lens very often but I keep it here so I know where it's at. It's easy to misplace things with a 4 year old and 3 year old running around in a home! Beside that is my Goat Milk Lotion. I bought this at our local market and fell IN LOVE with it. Seriously. This stuff helps my eczema so much! It's a life saver.
I'm sure some of you are probably wondering why I have a stack of candles. Well, the truth is, because throughout the day, my mood changes. My needs change and the inspiration I need around me changes. Having my candles close by helps me to create the mood I need to set for whatever I'm working on. Having a variety of scents at my fingertips is just easy for me and it works!
Sitting on a wall bar directly in front of my desk, I keep pens, SackBoy, sunblock (for when I'm heading out the door and need to grab it for the babies), perfume and a spa fountain. But the most important thing I keep up there? One of my all-time favorite photos of my kiddos. I took them out during sunrise one morning and grabbed updated photos of them to send to family. In this particular moment, Zophie leaned over and whispered something to Zayne. He clearly thought it was the funniest thing ever!
Moving over, I keep a box of random jewelry pieces that have either been misplaced or broken during shoots. I take the jewelry pieces and put them onto head pieces or other items that I use for shoots. I also line my personal rings up on the base of my monitor because again, my mood changes throughout the day. As my outfit changes or even if it doesn't, I can grab a different ring and keep moving!
Next over is my bottle of Vera Wang "Truly Pink". I absolutely LOVE this stuff. Seriously. It smells like a dream. Beside that is my glass bowl filled with a variety of lip balms and nail polish. Having a 4 year old young one in the home who loves having me paint her toenails daily, this bowl gets lots of use.
Any other day, this space would be empty and used for writing space, but today was evaluation day for my magazine, She's So Glamorous. I spent part of my afternoon going through previous issues and evaluating what could be done differently and being real with myself.
This is also the space where I jot down ideas in my planner (below the magazine) and charge up my phone. No matter how long I charge it, I always end up making a dash for the charger by the end of the day.
This area to the right of my desk is what keeps VRP, She's So Glamorous, Finding U in Your Business, Powerful Women of VA, Loving the Skin I'm In and my personal life ORGANIZED. Complete with a pin board, magnetic board, dry erase board and dry erase calendar, this is where I'm able to jot down new ideas, write in upcoming sessions/meetings, clip up my kiddos most recent artwork and keep track of my "to do" list for the day. Without this space, everything would fall apart. Seriously.
So there you have it. A complete tour of my work space. Of course, I didn't go into what's inside my drawer, cubbyhole or filing cabinet because well.. that's a bit much. But, I hope you enjoyed it! Maybe you will find some inspiration to allow your work space to reflect who you are.
